Peru Trek with Cusco (Aug 9-23, 2011)

While my main focus of my trip to Peru was to hike across the Andes, to Choquequirao and then to Machu Picchu, I also spent a couple of days in Cusco at each end of the trip.

From my hotel, it was a short walk to Plaza de Armas and the historic town center.

I also made several trips to the local market for fruits and baked goods.

I enjoyed just wandering around the city and observing traditional outfits that some people were wearing

I visited the Inca museum

and a children's art museum

I also went to Choco Museum, where I learned to make chocolate.
I roasted the beans.

Then ground the beans.

I used them to make hot chocolate and chocolate candies.

I also visited the Visiting Sacsayhauman Fortress

I was too chicken to slide down the rock slides, since I didn't want to get injured before my trek.

and from there, took the short walk to Mirador desde el Cristo Blanco

When the trek was over, I returned to Cusco and had a nice massage and saw a parade in the plaza.

And then it was time to head back home.
