Alaska (July 27-Aug 8)

I went to Gustavus Alaska with Steve to visit the Bear Track Inn.

He was working most of the trip and I was trying to vacation and spend time with him while he was there, so I explored the areas near the lodge.

One afternoon, Bandit and I walked up Falls Creek Road to the Upper Falls and the Yellowlegs Savannah trail.

Later that afternoon, Steve, his mom, and I went golfing at the Gustavus Golf Course.

Picking wild strawberries at the golf course was more fun!

On another day, Steve and I went to Glacier Bay National Park, and then later hiked to an old airplane crash site.

Another day we ran errands, going down to the docks (saw a bald eagle),

We also collected crab,

and then went to get spare parts from the junk yard.

Alaska - Glacier Bay Boat Tour

A highlight of the trip was taking a boat tour of Glacier Bay.
We saw lots of sea lions
Tons of birds
Puffins!

We also saw bears along the coast, lifting rocks looking for food
Mountain goats
And a rather amusing altercation between a wolf and a bear.
We also got to see the glaciers

and were fortunate enough to witness calving, as large chunks of ice fell into the bay.

Alaska - Kayaking

We spent one wet raining afternoon kayaking (and trying to fish).

Alaska - Whale Watching

On another day we went on a whale watching tour and were not disappointed.

We saw lots of whales in the distance, and several came right up to the boat.
